Red Ribbon Week 2013
Red Ribbon/Anti-Bullying week was October 28th- November 1st. One of the activities done during the week was an essay contest. Essays were submitted to North Central Behavior Health Systems about the Dangers of Drugs and Alcohol.Of the 200 essays that were submitted by 4th-8th graders from our region, Dallas Powell from Lostant School was picked as one of the 5 winners. Dallas wrote about being healthy and drug free and won some great prizes for having his essay picked. He received an iPod Nano, a certificate of achievement, and many great small prizes to hand out to all the kids at the school. Student council also sponsored many activities for Red Ribbon/Anti-Bullying Week. Monday, Oct. 28th was the kick off -All students were given a Red Ribbon/Anti-Bullying bracelet they could wear all week. Tuesday, Oct. 29th-Smarties don't do drugs. Everyone received Smarties to remind them to not do drugs. Wednesday, Oct. 30-Shade out drugs. The children could wear their sunglasses. Thursday, Oct. 31-Orange you glad you don't do drugs. Everyone was asked to wear orange.Friday, Nov. 1-Friends don't let friends do drugs or bully. Everyone was asked to dress like their friends.
Along with the student council activities that were held during Red Ribbon/Anti-Bullying week, a drug dog assembly was held in the gym on Tuesday afternoon. Chief Darin Carask and Officer Jacob Graham from Lostant Police Department and Officer Jason Spradling from Wenona Police Department came to the school and put on an assembly. They brought in two of the local drug dogs.Chief Darin Carask talked about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and about bullying. Then the dogs showed the children how they do their jobs and help the police force to search for drugs and help protect the officers when they are on duty.
