Homework – Your student will have homework to complete each night.  This can be studying their spelling words, phonics practice, math practice, reading their story of the week each night for fluency and comprehension, science vocabulary, or handwriting practice.  Grades 1st and 2nd student work should take no more than 15-20 minutes each night.

Take Home Folder Everyday your child will bring home an orange colored vinyl folder.  The purpose of the folder is to instill organizational skills and to guarantee good communication between home and school.  Please check this folder every evening for notes, graded papers, and important announcements.  Take out and keep all papers placed on the inside pocket labeled ‘Keep at Home’ and be sure your child brings this folder to school every morning!  Lastly, please be sure to sign your child’s homework sheet (found on the front of the folder).  Your signature must be on this sheet to allow your child to meet the school-wide goal of 85% compliance.

Behavior: Students need to follow directions, be quiet (no making noises), no talking out of turn (raise your hand), and keep hands and feet to yourself.   I have high expectations, but to have an orderly room where learning is #1, students will be successful if they have good behavior.

Students also follow the red light, yellow light, green light chart. If a student gets into trouble, they get a verbal warning. If they get into trouble again, they get a yellow light, lose ten minutes of recess, and a note will go home that needs to be signed and returned. If they get a red light, they lose all of recess and a note will go home with your child and it needs to be signed and returned.
