Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth Hours 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th and 8th Reading

We are starting the year doing extensive assessments so that we can best meet all students' needs.

Starting with great novels- A Long Way From Chicago (Peck), The River Between Us (Peck), The Worst/ Best School Year ever (Robinson), and Scorpions (Myers).

We will continue to work with Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Reading system. As a teacher, I love this! It does include a great deal of preparation work. It is so wonderful to see the children being successful at their own level and eliminated frustration! I am so looking forward to the week long Novel study units that is included after every level they complete! We are using Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Reading System to assess . Each child has an assessed reading level and has been placed in a group to accommodate the most success and progress. Every day I work with each group of students covering all literacy areas including Comprehension, Vocabulary, Fluency,  Phonics/Words Study and Writing. It is very fast paced but so beneficial to the students!

All students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes outside of class daily. This is logged and assessed through their “Homework Reading Log” and Reading Journal at school. They are expected to write about what they are reading. They will also set a reasonable AR goal and expected to take tests at school to acquire points. They can take tests during Reading or during study hall.
